What to do?

My friend, Holly, recently asked me, "what do you do when you can't get out?" She was, of course, referring to the times when the doctor gives us the homebound word and tells us to stay clear of restaurants, Sunday school, and other children in general. So, here are a few of the pictures that I collected from the last week we were secluded from the world. Now, keep in mind that there are many videos, TV shows, computer games, and drive-thru eateries that happen in between all of this. I'm not claiming to be super mom, I'm just sharing my ideas.
Moon Sand is very fun, but very messy. You have been warned.

He asked to help. I promise. No child labor laws broken here.

We do get the wonderful privilege of being outside when it is warm enough. This is our favorite activity.

Again, finger paints are messy, but oh so much fun!

Now, please share any ideas that you moms have for fun activities with your kiddos. I'd love to have some tricks up my sleeve for another day.

when it's warm enough we fill up big plastic bowls of water and "paint" the side of the house with foam paint brushes. the kids love it. i've read of using same brushes in the bathtub with water colors but haven't been brave enough for that. sometimes i put shaving cream all over my (yucky) kitchen table and we draw in it. hope some of that helps!

I second the shaving cream, except we do it on our glass-topped coffee table. It makes it shiny when you're done! You can run cars and trucks through it and then have a "carwash" afterward. You can also mix a couple of drops of food coloring with a bowl of shaving cream to make bathtub paint. Another big hit around here is a tray with a cup or two of cornmeal in it and scoops/funnels/etc. Kind of like having a sand box indoors. :-) Let's see....toy cars/trucks and wrapping paper/paper towel/toilet paper tubes? Do you have the Toddler's Busy Book and the Preschooler's Busy Book? Tons of great ideas in those. Looks to me like you guys are doing a fabulous job keeping him occupied and happy! :-)

I think our favorite activity when Kennedy was home in between rounds of chemo was going to the zoo... of course it was summer time... that would be kind of hard right now! LOL We also did a lot of movies and lots of games. The kids all love DVD Bingo (we have the disney and the nick jr. versions). No reading is required so even Kennedy got the hang of it! The kids also love sidewalk chalk when it's warm enough to go out. We also found outdoor restaurants to eat at, our favorite is Red Robin in Mt. Juliet.

Jana,
As a former teacher I know you would love the book Mommy Teach Me by Barbara Curtis. It is chock-full of great ideas for learning at home. You can find out more info at www.mommyteachme.net. It has lots of sorting activities and hands-on things to do at home.

Ok...yesterday we let Gage and Ellie blow up balloons and pop them with sticks in the backyard. A bit messy, but hilarious to watch!

well as long as you are using your 3 year old to clean your house, you might as well get him to sew clothes too. once andi gets 2 years older she can join in and it can be your own sweat shop. just like kathy lee.

thanks for dinner tuesday night...did joshua cook that?

:)
